I have just got back from the Doctor's where I took Nikita to get her 4 year old injections. She had to have one in each arm & the nurse & doctor gave them at the same time. I got the vibe that both were slightly nervous as I imagine the 4 year old ones have the potential to be the worst.
Nikita & I'd talked about her having to get her needles once she was four a few weeks ago. She'd also come with me when I'd gone for a blood test about a month ago, so she'd seen how 'brave' I'd been & that it only stings a bit. And today after picking her up from NannaJay's I'd told her we were going to the doctor's for a check up now that she was four, but didn't mention her having needles. She suggested we take Teddy too, so they could be brave together. Good idea!!! (Why didn't I think of it first??). We had time, so I nipped home & collected him & headed off to the doc's.
So, back to sitting on the chair with her on my lap. Arms folded across her lap holding her teddy, & me holding each forearm so she couldn't really move. Both needles in & out within a few short seconds. No flinching, no tensing, no "ouch", no tears, NOTHING!!! Amazing Nikita, once again AMAZING!!!
She just never ceases to amaze me. I asked her afterwards if it hurt & she said "nup. Can I have a special treat?". I just hope now that she doesn't have as big a reaction as Sasha had to hers - big swollen upper arm for weeks afterwards.
And now my precious, brave 4 year old is tucked up in bed having her afternoon sleep.
